D365 SCM 10.0.49: Supplier Engagement – Centrally Manage Supplier Relationships
With version 10.0.49, Microsoft introduces the new Supplier Engagement preview feature and extends Dynamics 365 Supply Chain Management with modern supplier management capabilities. The solution enables organizations to support suppliers through every stage of the relationship in a structured and transparent way, from initial registration and qualification to approval and ongoing operational collaboration.
A centralized platform for internal procurement teams and external suppliers creates the foundation for greater transparency, more consistent data, and more efficient processes. At the same time, suppliers are more closely integrated into digital procurement activities, while collaboration across multiple legal entities becomes easier to manage.
What is Supplier Engagement?
Supplier information and communication are spread across different systems, emails, and manual lists in many organizations. Supplier Engagement creates a shared workspace for internal procurement teams and external suppliers. Procurement professionals can centrally manage supplier relationships, open activities, qualifications, risks, certificates, and performance information. Suppliers receive controlled access to the processes and data intended for them through the portal.
The solution extends the operational procurement capabilities of Dynamics 365 Supply Chain Management and Dynamics 365 Finance with Supplier Relationship Management functionality. It supports more than the processing of individual purchase orders. Supplier development, evaluation, and ongoing supplier management can also be handled within a single, end-to-end process.
System Requirements
To activate and use the capabilities described in this article, consider the following prerequisites:
•Microsoft Dynamics 365 Supply Chain Management 10.0.49 or Dynamics 365 Finance 10.0.49. (Microsoft lists Supplier Engagement as a preview feature for release 10.0.49).
•The Supplier Engagement (Preview) feature is enabled in the Feature management workspace.
•The Supplier Engagement solution, including the Supplier Engagement app and Supplier Portal, is installed and configured.
•Required security roles, internal user access, and external portal permissions are configured.
Supplier Engagement App: Central Workspace for Procurement
The Supplier Engagement app provides internal users with a central workspace for supplier management. Procurement teams can review supplier information, support onboarding and qualification activities, document performance assessments, and track relevant risks or certificates. This creates a unified view of the supplier relationship, including scenarios where the same supplier is used by multiple legal entities.
A key focus is Global Vendor Management. Supplier information can be managed across legal entities while individual business relationships and approvals remain controlled. This supports more consistent data and reduces duplicate maintenance in organizations with multiple legal entities.
Supplier Portal: Digital Collaboration with Suppliers
The Supplier Portal provides suppliers with self-service capabilities for collaborating with procurement. Depending on the configured process, suppliers can maintain company and contact information, provide required documents or certificates, respond to requests for quotation, review purchase orders, and support invoice processes. The submitted information is transferred in a controlled manner to the connected Dynamics 365 processes.
This creates an integrated flow from initial supplier registration through onboarding and qualification to ongoing collaboration. Internal control is retained while suppliers take a more active role in maintaining data and completing assigned process steps.
How the App, Portal, and Dynamics 365 Work Together
The Supplier Engagement app and Supplier Portal represent two sides of the same process. Suppliers enter or update the information made available to them in the portal. Internal users review the submitted data in the Supplier Engagement app, perform qualification activities, and manage approvals or follow-up actions. Relevant supplier data and operational procurement processes are connected with Dynamics 365 Supply Chain Management or Dynamics 365 Finance.
This creates an integrated flow from initial supplier registration through onboarding and qualification to ongoing collaboration. Internal control is retained while suppliers take a more active role in maintaining data and completing assigned process steps.
Business Benefits
Supplier Engagement helps organizations manage supplier relationships with greater transparency, consistency, and digital collaboration:
•Central visibility into supplier relationships and related activities.
•Structured registration, qualification, and approval of new suppliers.
•Self-service for master data, documents, and selected procurement processes.
•More consistent supplier data across legal entities through Global Vendor Management.
•Improved tracking of performance, risks, certificates, and actions.
•Less manual coordination and reduced dependency on email and separate lists.
•Closer connection between strategic supplier management and operational procurement.
Implementation Considerations
Considerations for a Successful Introduction
Since Microsoft currently provides Supplier Engagement as a preview feature in version 10.0.49, it is recommended to first perform a functional and technical evaluation in a sandbox environment. In particular, organizations should analyze how the new solution impacts existing supplier processes, onboarding procedures, approval policies, and existing Vendor Collaboration scenarios. In addition, companies should assess which capabilities are already ready for productive use and which areas are still under development.
Special attention should be given to role and permission concepts for internal users and external suppliers, as Supplier Engagement significantly increases the level of collaboration between these groups. It is also advisable to review existing integrations, data security requirements, and master data maintenance processes to ensure compatibility with the new solution.
For initial practical testing, a pilot implementation with a selected group of suppliers is recommended. This enables registration, qualification, review, and approval processes to be validated under real-world conditions while helping identify potential organizational or technical adjustment requirements at an early stage. At the same time, procurement teams can gain experience with the new way of working and clearly define internal responsibilities.
As Microsoft may continue to evolve the functionality and scope of preview features until general availability, organizations should regularly monitor the latest product documentation, release notes, and announcements and adjust their implementation strategy accordingly.
